3.9-0.1 from here down, it's just a measurement of how badly the developer failed.

Our present knowledge of gaming is not taken into account when older games are reviewed. For example, a Genesis game could have a higher visual score than a Dreamcast game, even though it is obvious the Dreamcast game is far more aesthetically pleasing. The score is relevant to the system, genre, and time period the game resides in.
